The Organization

The Two Rivers Community Development Centre (Two Rivers) is an Aboriginal Financial Institution that supports Indigenous entrepreneurs in South/Central Ontario. Our vision is to build Aboriginal prosperity by providing financial support and business advisory services to Indigenous owned and controlled businesses in our service area.

Primary Contribution

The Business Support Officer exists to establish and nurture the ideal client relationships for Two Rivers Community Development Centre. By guiding Indigenous entrepreneurs through structured financial and business support, this role ensures that every client receives tailored insight, reliable information, and sound recommendations. In doing so, the Business Support Officer becomes a trusted guide in the journey toward sustainable economic empowerment.

Responsibilities

Client Relationship Stewardship

  • Create a positive, informed first impression for clients and potential clients.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately to understand each client’s context and goals.
  • Empower entrepreneurs through thoughtful, measured guidance and support.

Information Gathering & Recommendations

  • Make ideal recommendations based on a working knowledge of available programs and an ability to assess client readiness.
  • Collect and analyse application materials to ensure they meet all submission standards.
  • Facilitate early-stage client screening to support leadership decision-making.

Process Integrity & Operational Support

  • Enter and maintain accurate data in the pipeline and tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to keep records organised, complete, and current.
  • Track the progress of client businesses and flag opportunities for added support.

Community Engagement & Knowledge Sharing

  • Maintain and update databases of Indigenous businesses in the region.
  • Participate in outreach and events to promote entrepreneurship and awareness of available resources.
  • Contribute to internal meetings and learning sessions with thoughtful observations and context.

Reporting Structure, Work Setting, And Compensation

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Direct Reports: 0-1
Environment: Primarily office-based with some flexibility for remote work. Occasional travel within the service area for events or client engagement
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
Compensation: $50,000 – $65,000 per annum, plus a modest benefits package and travel reimbursement for work-related travel.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5 years in client services, community economic development, business finance, banking, credit unions, or non-profits is preferred. Experience supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs is highly valued.
  • Financial Knowledge: Strong understanding of budgeting, financial systems, and lending processes, with the ability to assist clients in financial planning and accessing loan products.
  • Education: A degree or diploma in business, finance, economic development, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Indigenous Economic Development: Familiarity with Indigenous business or economic initiatives (especially in support roles) is an asset. Preference will be given to band members and individuals who have operated their own business.
  • Cultural Competency: Knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, and challenges is beneficial. Lived experience and/or direct involvement in Indigenous communities is highly valued.
  • Government Programs: Awareness of relevant loan, grant, and contribution programs related to Indigenous business development is an asset.
